3 Favorite Fishing Spots Near Groesbeck, OH

Located in the northwestern outskirts of Cincinnati, the small town of Groesbeck, OH, is perfectly placed between the bustle of the city and the beautiful nature reserves and state parks of the region. For local anglers and visitors, Groesbeck offers plenty of nearby fishing spots where you can spend some quality time with friends and catch some great specimens of the local species. Whether you are into boat or shoreline fishing, these are some nearby spots you should not miss.


1. Miami Whitewater Forest

Featuring an 85-acre artificial reservoir, Miami Whitewater Forest is a popular destination among residents of the entire Cincinnati metropolitan area. This nature reserve covers an area of a little under 5,000 acres and offers excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, golfing, picnicking, and fishing. Some of the most popular fish species that can be found in the waters of Miami Whitewater Forest Lake include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, rainbow trout, and yellow perch.

Getting from the Groesbeck city center to the entrance of Miami Whitewater Forest takes about 20 minutes by car along routes OH-128 and I-275. Once you make your way here, make sure to stop by the visitors’ center and ask for a map of the different fishing areas in the forest. This park is open every day from sunrise to sunset and can be visited free of charge.  


2. Winton Lake

Located about seven miles northeast of downtown Groesbeck, Winton Lake is a great destination for fishing and other outdoor activities. Home to large populations of bluegill, pumpkinseed, bullheads, and channel catfish, it is a popular spot among local anglers, particularly during the spring and summer months. The lake is located in the middle of Winton Woods, an extensive park featuring hiking trails, shelters, a disc golf course, and camping spots.

Getting from downtown Groesbeck to the entrance of Winton Woods takes a little under 15 minutes by car along routes OH-126 and Winton Road. Some of the best fishing areas are located along the northern shores of the lake, not far from the boathouse and a small snack bar where you can grab a bite while exploring the park. Besides fishing, the Winton Woods complex is an excellent destination for a picnic escape with your family or friends.


3. East Fork State Park

Covering a surface area of about 5,000 acres, East Fork State Park is one of the largest state parks in the entire state of Ohio. Located about 35 miles southeast of downtown Groesbeck, it can be reached in about 45 minutes by car along route US-52. For anglers, the main attraction is William H. Harsha Lake, a 2,000-acre body of water that is home to healthy populations of crappie, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish.
